Kjølnes lighthouse, Varanger peninsula, Troms og Finnmark, Norway

Kjølnes lighthouse is a coastal lighthouse located about 3 miles east of the village of Berlevåg in Berlevåg municipality in Troms og Finnmark county in north east Norway. The lighthouse was established in 1916, destroyed during World War 2, rebuilt in 1949 and automated in 1994. It was listed as a protected site in 1998. The white, square, concrete tower is 72 feet tall and it has a round red lantern on top that emits 3 white flashes every 40 seconds. The light can be seen for up to 17 miles and operates from 12 August until 24 April each year. The light is off during the summer due to the 24 hour daylight and the midnight sun.
