Loch an Eilean, Highland

Loch an Eilean is a small loch in the Rothiemurchus Forest located 3 miles south of Aviemore on Speyside. On a small island in the loch stand the remains of a 15th century castle which is believed to have been a property of Alexander Stewart, the Wolf of Badenoch. A nature trail circuits the loch and passes through the typical Caledonian pine forest of this part of Scotland.
