Reindeer

Reindeer - Other deer
Reindeer are the northernmost species of deer being found throughout the tundra (frozen arctic plain with lichens, mosses and dwarfed vegetation) and taiga (marshy pine forest) zones of the Northern Hemisphere.

They were re-introduced in to Scotland in 1952 by a Swedish Reindeer Herder, Mikel Utsi.

Starting from a few reindeer, the Cairnrgorms herd has grown in numbers over the years and is currently held at between 130 and 150.
