Saaremaa is the 4th largest island in the Baltic Sea and largest island in Estonia, measuring over 1000 square miles. It is located in the Baltic Sea, south of the island of Hiiumaa, and it is included within the the West Estonian Archipelago Biosphere Reserve. The island lies on a major migration flyway between Europe and the Arctic and huge numbers of birds appear in spring and autumn. The Kübassaare peninsula is one of the best birding sites combining both wetland and woodland habitats including grassy shores, meadows, mixed forests, reedbeds, lakes and coastal islets, inlets and bays.
